Accra is set to come alive with the colors, rhythm, and spirit of the Volta Region as the much-anticipated Experience Volta in Accra Festival takes over the El Wak Sports Stadium this December. Officially endorsed by the Ghana Tourism Authority as part of the December in Ghana calendar, the event promises a spectacular journey through the soul of Eweland — from ancient traditions to modern creativity.
The day-long celebration features six captivating segments, each offering a distinct cultural experience that immerses patrons in the heartbeat of Volta. Here’s a breakdown of what awaits you:
Fiazorli – The Awakening Procession (10:00 AM – 11:00 AM)
The festival begins with an awe-inspiring royal and mystical procession — a parade of chiefs, traditional priests, drummers, and safo groups marching from the 37 Officers Mess to El Wak Stadium.
This grand opening, filled with color and rhythm, symbolizes awakening and unity. As chants, horns, and drums echo through Accra’s streets, the Ewe spirit is rekindled for all to feel.
Amlima Kornuwo – Durbar of Chiefs (11:00 AM – 1:00 PM)
Next, witness a breathtaking display of tradition and leadership at the Mini Durbar of Chiefs, where culture meets pageantry.
Dignitaries, cultural icons, and guests will experience royal greetings, sacred rituals, and captivating performances that showcase the strength, unity, and wisdom of Volta’s traditional authorities — a living celebration of identity and pride.
Blema Xotutuwo – The Cultural Experience (1:00 PM – 5:00 PM)
The afternoon bursts into rhythm and movement as the stage transforms into a cultural arena.
From the pulsating beats of Agbadza and Borborbor to the fierce energy of Atsiagbekor, this segment celebrates ancestral dance and storytelling in their purest forms.
Every performance tells a tale — of resilience, joy, and the enduring heartbeat of the Ewe people.
Vakpor Mi Da – The Taste of Volta (1:00 PM – 5:00 PM)
Running alongside the performances is a sensory feast like no other.
Visitors will savor authentic Volta dishes — from Akple and Abobi Tadi to Fetri Detsi and local drinks. The culinary experience is complemented by fashion showcases, arts and crafts exhibitions, and local innovations that highlight the creativity and enterprise of the Volta Region.
It’s a perfect blend of taste, art, and tradition — a true “Experience of Volta.”
Blema Vivisese – Old Skul Vibes (6:30 PM – 10:00 PM)
As dusk falls, nostalgia takes center stage.
This segment celebrates timeless Ewe folk music, spoken word, and traditional chants that have defined generations. A serene yet soul-stirring experience, it’s a moment for reflection, storytelling, and connection — perfect for the elders and lovers of authentic cultural rhythm.
Egbeviwo Vivisese – The New Wave Experience (10:00 PM – Till Dawn)
The night erupts into energy as the next generation of Volta’s stars take over the stage!
Prepare for electrifying performances across Hiplife, Highlife, Afropop, Dancehall, Reggae, and Rap — a fusion of heritage and modern artistry.
As drums meet basslines and tradition blends with innovation, Accra’s skyline will pulse to the sounds of Volta’s vibrant future.
